Mis 30

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

August is my month. Is when my birthday is. 30 this year! I love celebrating my day, although I don’t feel like I’m in my thirties, only when I try to remember moments from the past and I have to calculate how many years have passed, “14? Already?” I would think. I feel very young and I am, aren’t I? Depends on how you look at it, right? I’ll be a hundred year old, same as my friend Lidia, whose will is to blow 100 candles.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was very excited on doing a theme party like last year. It got complicated though, too many people involved. Our group of friends has increased and a friend’s birthday was a couple of days before. We decided to celebrate it together in her house, in her huge house, in our unit we wouldn’t fit. The day we gather to plan the celebration, I showed up with my mood board, soon I realized things wouldn’t be as I thought they would be. Not everyone troughs complicated parties. She is more practical than I am, she was just considering easier things, “we make a BBQ, a friend would be making paella, we put the table just there and that’s it”. I have to admit for 30 people or more that plan was a more suitable plan. She told me to do whatever I wanted with the decoration, the food was already organized so I didn’t have to worry. So my idea of relating the food with the party theme was not going to happen. I just did a few little details.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I couldn’t do it without Lidia, Alfonso and Gorka’s help. They were so helpful doing all the paper cutting and gluing, such a big support and they backed my dream cake!! Without them sure I would not have finished the party supplies as I had to work interstate those 2 weeks.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It ended up being an amazing party and our friends liked all the details, which made me very happy. It was a kind of a Mediterranean style party where the Australians basically tasted Mauro’s dishes. Even my workmates said they had a great time. At the beginning they were quiet, but in a party with so many Spaniards, rowdiness and happiness are granted. It didn’t take long for my workmates to get into the dancing, but for sure, I think they were surprised of our singing volume, you can’t help it when you listen to old songs, we all got too excited!

Gorka and I stayed overnight. The next day a few of us got together and ate the remaining food, you cannot imagine how much leftover was there! We had churros pending, we made them on Sunday as the birthday girls wanted J
This is how my thirtieth birthday was celebrated.

Polar Party

Colores: blanco + negro + plateado

¡Y a bailar!

The 24th of August 1983 I said: here I come world! and this is the best reason to celebrate it no matter what. As you can see I am turning all the twenties and I am celebrating it with penguins and whales. I know, it is not good to follow so many blogs written by young mothers who organize cute parties for their kids, afterwards I feel like having one.

Why a polar party? Because since I moved to down under my birthday is not in summer anymore, and I wanted to emphasize it. In addition our house is like living in a Igloo, we always say we just need the pinguins to join us, so that is how the idea started...

Colors: white + black + metalic.
Deco: Tassel garland (you can see an easy tutorial here). The ones hanging from the ceiling are sewn with my sewing machine. Draw different animals and print them to glue them to the plastic glasses. Cut and sew cardboard to make some crockery covers.
Menu: cauliflower cream on black plate and black calamaris on a white plate. And attempt of making an igloo and some cupcakes to blow the candles.
Gifts for friends: bow ties in a cute package.

Time to dance!

DIY: Screen Printed Cushion

I was looking forward to spend a crafty sunday at  home in order to decorate our home, sweet home. Gorka was planning to go surfing but I really wanted him to stay with me. I desired it so badly that the waves afiliated with me and the sea became too messy to surf, so I did have a crafty friend. I also invited our friend Lidia, I love being sorrounded with people, could you tell? Well, Lidia refused to even get close to a brush but Gorka got excited and he was very kind to make his own cushion. And it couldn´t be other thing than a robot, taking into account that is not our first one, we are about to start a collection already! (ssshhh is kind of a secret but Koala loves Bot the robot, we should help him be more relaxed, don´t you think?)

¡Vamos a coser!

Tutorial para crear tu propia cinta bies aquí

¡Hola!

Paso 5: delantal + tiras traseras.

Hellooo!! Is anyone there who has a dusty sewing machine? or anyone who is always willing to start sewing? So now is the time to stop thinking and start to create. Once you finish this project you are ready to sew whatever comes to your head :) But watch out! is adictive ;)

Note: I´m not an expert I am just showing you how I made this apron and I want you to give an opportunity to your poor sewing machine who screams at you everytime you pass through. I also draw the process, hopefully to make it more understandable.

And finally, if you are going to give it a go, I would love to have some feedback to see how did it go. And I do apologize for my spanglish in advance ;)

Let´s start!:

Step 1: cut all the pieces as shown in the drawing and create your own bias tape in case you haven´t got one.

Step 2: Pocket. Overlock all four corners. Fold 1cm to the wrong side of the fabric. Iron 3 sides. Repeat the same with the top corner but this time fold it to 2.5cm and iron.

Step 3: Place the pocket on the apron and pin it. Sew all three corners and plain machine the middle of the pocket from top to bottom in order to keep our tools more safely.

Step 4: back strips. Fold one of the strips right sides together. Leave 1cm seam allowance and plain machine. Turn the piece; make the seam allowance to be in the middle of the width and iron. Repeat the action with the second strip.

Step 5: apron + back strips. Place wrong side of the strip (where the seam is) on top of the wrong side of the apron. Plain machine just the bottom of the strips to the apron. Repeat the action with the other strip.

Step 6: bias tape. Sew the bias tape all around the apron starting from the shoulder, matching right side of the bias + wrong side of the apron. Once it has been sewn fold the bias covering the edges and sew it from the right side of the apron.

Step 7: Final shot. Fold 1cm fabric into the strips and cover the shoulder of the apron hiding the ending of the bias tape + the edge of the apron. Top stitch it and that´s it! You are ready for the next project!

Congratulations!!

Advent Calendar 2011

Os agradezco muchísimo vuestros comentarios, incluso me emocione, gracias, muchas gracias.

We´ve made this advent calendar to keep us motivated until we head to Melbourne where we will celebrate Christmas Eve with our adoptive family, since one more year we will be far from our relatives. We have fill them up with chocolates (which is our vice) but surprises are welcome, which we also love, what will we find out? Will Gorka eat all of them? Mmm…

And, stay tuned for tomorrow; something will happen these 24 days at cocomarro´s blog…

DIY Gift Tags

Tutorials from here and here

Si hace malo podéis empezar a hacer tarjetitas J

As soon as we knew we had to move to Adelaide, what was the first thing I did? Look for a crafters community, of course I found it: Brown Owls Adelaide. Last week I attended my first workshop where it was said we were going to make gift tags. I thought everyone would be doing their own stuff, but well, I bought some material and I couldn´t be more excited to go there. Honestly, my expectations were different, I felt awkward. I am not expecting a huge welcome but at least a “hello” yes. Anyway, I did some gift tags while other definitely were doing their projects such as crochet, knitting, patternmaking, rubber stamps etc. Even if it wasn´t as cool as Melbourne´s Etsy party, where I met my future crafternoons friends each experience it´s a lesson and I am sure I will find my spot in the craft field. Moreover, the lady from the community centre, who couldn´t be more helpful, gave me more group names and community addresses in which I can also use sewing machines!!

I wasn´t very creative at that moment, I was nervous you know? (Excuses). I basically copied from this and this tutorial. This is for my sister, who was telling me she feels like doing this with her hands, but she doesn´t like sewing either painting (even if she is good at it but she doesn´t want to accept it) and that she hasn´t got much time (two kids). Here it is sister! Also the little ones can collaborate.

After those mixed feelings, I went home we tried to watch a movie and my computer didn´t want to switch on the screen!! It was on strike!! As a consequence I had been one week without a computer. And as stubborn we had to put the screen apart, and what it was a portable it turn up being a fixed PC with a external screen and the webcam hanging from a little cable. Hopefully is going to last, I don´t want to be forced to buy a new one.

Have a nice weekend! If you haven´t anything better to do you can try doing the gift tags! :)
